Solidity - Arcy Art Original Oil Paintings Art Dictionary
Solidity in sculpture is a perceptual quality belonging to form as experienced when seen. Bronze sculptures, though hollow, are perceived as having the properties of solid form. Being solid, sculpture contains a voloume of mass, in contrast to pottery, which contains a volume of space. At their most typical the arts of pottery and of sculpture appeal to different aspects of our sense of form. The perceptual quality of solidity can also be related to the actual quality of weight.
