Title - ' The Suit '
This portrait of a young Nelson Mandela was inspired by a photograph of Nelson Mandela in his first suit which was bought for him when he was sent for further studies at Fort Hare. Nelson Mandela had to go for further education as it was believed that his destiny was to become a counselor to the chief as his father was. In his book "The Long Walk to Freedom" Nelson Mandela recalls that the suit made him feel grown up and sophisticated. In the background I hinted at the actual destiny of Nelson Mandela by adding graffiti on the wall saying " Free Mandela ". In the late seventies and eighties when Nelson Mandela was incarcerated by the apartheid government of South Africa this type of graffiti could be seen in just about every township of South Africa.
