This is the debut launch of photographer, Günther Komnick’s second book. The images are drawn from an extensive collection of photographs taken in Cape Town towards the end of the 1950’s and early 1960's. Komnick walked around the city with his camera and captured the daily lives of people living in the Bo-Kaap, District Six and central Cape Town. His engagement with his subjects is reminiscent of the style that was emerging in Europe and made popular by the likes of Cartier-Bresson, coined the decisive moment. The book includes an essay by Dr M Cassiem D’arcy and a foreword by photographer, Gavin Furlonger.

As a young apprentice he studied under French avant-garde photographer Maurice Tabard, who taught him the importance of contrast in black and white photography and of observing the work of earlier painters, sculptors and artists.

Senzo Shabangu's third solo show, Obsession, reflects a turning point in his career as an artist through his appreciation of the response of his audience to his work, the inner power which drives him to create and the power above that has seen him through his success. Shabangu's three exhibitions with David Krut Projects form an on going exploration on the personal trials of being an artist in South Africa. Shabangu has said that he considers Obsession a breakthrough in his artistic practice.
