I work in all styles and media, but mostly with oil/canvas. I paint Cape Landscapes, the human figure and anything that inspires me. My work is emotional, sometimes political with a satyrical edge. I am also interested in painting as a medium to express the times that I find myself living in - I like painting as narrative and aspire to tell stories with my work or make people think about things - current events, racism, things that affect South Africans. Living in Cape Town I am informed by the beauty of the environment around me but tend to feel lost in it and at times alienated. The natural beauty is so awe-inspiring I am constantly overwhelmed. I try to deal with this in my paintings. If I manage to capture this beauty I am so happy I don't paint for months!
