Alfred Frederic Krenz was born in Vienna 1899 - 1980

Art Education
- 1915 – 1916 : Kunstgewerbeschule, Vienna; under Franz Cizek and Oska Strnad.
- 1922 – 1926 : Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna (won the Prix de Rome)
- 1929 – 1931 : Amédée Ozenfant’s Academy, Paris

Short Artist Biography
- The son of an architect.
- 1926 : his precocious artistic ability confirmed by the award of the Prix de Rome; traveled and exhibited widely in Europe.
- 1932 : Alfred Krenz married Ethel Senior, sister of Mrs FCL Bosman of Pretoria; worked in Vienna, participated in Secession Exhibitions until Hitler’s occupation of Austria.
- 1938 : Alfred Krenz moved to Holland; his first South African exhibition sent out to Cape Town.
- 1943 : conscripted into Luftwaffe, served in Paris.
- 1949 : Alfred Krenz settled in Cape Town; rapid recognition a portraitist; continued to exhibit widely in Europe.
- 1953 : Alfred Krenz founded a school of art in Cape Town.
- 1954 : lengthy visit to the Americas.
- 1958 : at Salzburg Art Festival, awarded honorary title of Professor by Austrian Government.
- 1967 : Alfred Krenz awarded Medal of Honour for Painting by South African Akademie; kept up his habit of regular travel – 3 months in Europe each year.
- 1975 : honoured by Prestige Retrospective Exhibition at Pretoria Art Museum and, simultaneously, at SAAA Gallery, Pretoria. Worked at drawing, painting and printmaking – portraits, landscape and still-life.

- 1950 : first South African exhibition as resident.

- 1954 : Venice Bien.
- 1956 : First Quad of South African Art.
- 1961 : Soa Paulo Bien.
- 1964 : Venice Bien; Third Quad of South African Art.
- 1966 : Republic Festival Exhibition, Pretoria.
- 1969 : Quinquennial of South African Art.
- 1975 : Prestige Retrospec Exhibition, Pretoria Art Museum; SAAA, Pretoria.
- 1979 : “South African Printmakers”, South African National Gallery, Cape Town.
- 1981 : Small commem exhibition. South African National Gallery, Cape Town.
