Original Oil Painting of Nelson Mandela - " Influences "
Dimensions of oil painting - 61cm x 46cm (24"w x 18"h)
Title - ' Influences '
This painting evolved out of my interest in the early influences
of Nelson Mandela's life. Nelson Mandela is on the left wearing
an authentic beaded necklace of the Thembu clan out of which he
was born. To his right is the image of Chief Jongintaba who was
acting regent of the Thembu people a the time that he was guardian
and benefactor of the young Nelson Mandela. Jongintaba literally
means " One who stares at the mountain ". In the background
is an image of a youth participating in stick-fighting which was
essential knowledge to have for any rural African boy at the time
of Nelson Mandela was growing up. In the background I also added
some computer prints, containing some of my research information
that I have collected in preparation of this painting.
