ME 3
Date: 27 October - 8 December
Venue: Fried Contemporary Art Gallery & Studio, Pretoria, South Africa
t: +27 12 3460158, [email protected], www.friedcontemporary.com
The exhibition Me 3 reflects such investigation and understanding of identity in works in different media such as painting, drawing, sculpture, video, found materials and graphic art. in many of the works the choice of material adds to the rendering of identity, so that the use of plastic talks about artificiality and the packaging of the self, and paint about emotions. The artists' works show an interest in the role of processes such as formation, inheriting and transmssion and encourage the viewer to renegotiate and re-investigate identity through art, especially in terms of closed ideas there of. In the end the works suggest a kind of multidimensional identity.
Bronwyn Lace 'A Tendency Toward Complexity'
Date: 25 October - 3 December
Venue: CIRCA on Jellicoe, 2 & 6 Jellicoe Avenue, Rosebank.
The exhibitions main feature is an entirely new and site specific installation in CIRCA, inspired by the buildings architecture and the feelings it elicits for the artist as well as a growing fascination in the relationship between theology and physics. The 2004 Wits Fine Art graduate is attempting to tackle her own cognitive and emotional understanding of the physical world.
In a tendency toward complexity Lace employs scale, detail and light to create an awe-inspiring space of questions without answers.
