Casein Paint - Arcy Art Original Oil Paintings Art Dictionary
Casein Paint
Derived from milk casein paint is a fast-drying, water-soluble painting medium used by artists. Casein paint has a thick consistency that can be thinned with water to the degree that the artist requires. It can be used on canvas panels, illustration boards, paper, wood and masonite but should not be applied in heavy impastos on flexible supports as dried casein paint film is inflexible and brittle. Casein paint dries to a matte finish and can easily be painted over making it suitable for underpaintings.
Casein paint dries to an even consistency which makes it ideal for murals. A casein painting can also visually resemble an oil painting more than most other water based paintings.
