Canvas
In relation to art, canvas is a heavy-duty fabric that is usually primed and stretched so that it can be used as a painting surface. The canvas is stretched across a wooden frame called a stretcher and primed with gesso. In earlier times canvas was made with linen but since the early 20th century cotton is used to manufacture canvas.
Canvas can be purchased pre-stretched and primed but some artists prefer to stretch and treat the canvas themselves.
Canvas can also be printed on digitally to create canvas prints. After printing, the canvas can be wrapped around a stretcher and displayed
