Alla prima is term that specifically applies to oil painting and it describes the method of working of wet paint into wet paint, which may be either the underlayer or adjacent strokes. Alla Prima method of oil painting does not rely on on a dry underpainting nor an intermediary drying stage with the oil painting being completed in one process.
