Hein van Huyssteen

Born in Central Africa in the colonial days, he grew up surrounded by nature, experiencing the wild day by day. The young artist started early at the age of 5 years. By the age of 12 he had won his first competition with his art and was astounding his peers with his talents. After training with a well known artist in the medium of oil, Hein progressed to pastels, mixed media, inks and very soon onto water colours and acrylics.

The complexity of this medium is what challenged him to explore the very nature of the water with a complete mind of its own. What Hein soon discovered was the use of natural light and bold colours he could achieve using true watercolour   techniques. Hein has demonstrated these talents to his peers with great pride. He uses only quality materials both pigment and paper.

As owner of the Hein van Huyssteen Gallery as well as Affordable Framing in Somerset West, he is able to offer a permanent exhibition of his current works of art. While residing in Namibia he also owned a gallery and was able to study the various animal behavior and light values. His works have become very popular and now grace the homes of art lovers all over the world. Subject matter is never a problem as Hein's portfolio is vast. From sunset, nudes, florals, landscapes, seascapes, ethnic settlements and people to animals, contempory and modern works, he enjoys them all.

As National Spokesperson for Arts and Culture for one of the political parties in South Africa, he was able to promote local arts throughout the country and help fellow artists of all mediums. Inspiring students at tertiary institutions and universities on his official visits. Hein has presented many inspirational talks and workshops. Politics has enabled Hein to work with different embassies globally and was stimulated by various art styles and techniques that he now uses.
He has exhibited at many galleries, co-exhibited with many fellow well known artists, sharing ideas and inspiring one another. He has had a number of one man exhibitions as well as combined.

He is so grateful to still be able to learn with each and every new painting he finishes.
