Marittie de Villiers is largely selftaught. She finished a B.A. (Communication) at the Pothefstroom University.After spending six years at sea, sailing and exploring the Caribbean, the Americas and Bahamas she started painting with a vengeance on her return to SA in 2004.
Not having an affinity for formal training of any sort, the passion for painting has been the greatest driving force. Having little enthusiasm for landscape painting, she is extremely interested in capturing the spontaneity of a momentary image.
She has a indivualistic style of composition, technique and use of light and dark. She prefers models carrying out mundane and everyday tasks.
