I was born in Paris, France in 1950. Raised in Northern Rhodesia I developed a keen interest in the bush and wild life at an early age. I settled in South Africa with my parents and after completing my education joined the Port Elizabeth Museum, Snake Park and Oceanarium (now Bayworld) as resident artist. In 1977 I joined a national sign company as artist and rigger and in 1986 started my own screen printing partnership. I have travelled extensively by motorcycle throughout Southern Africa in pursuit of my bird watching hobby. I have exhibited locally and sold my bird portraits to collectors here and overseas. I now reside in Port Elizabeth with my wife and son.
I portray all birds life size in extreme detail, in their natural environment and where possible in characteristic postures. Designed to be attractive as a hanging portrait they will also be appreciated in close up scrutiny. Details, measurements and colour are from personal observation and from study skins obtained from museums or prepared by myself. Details of foliage and flowers are obtained from samples collected on location. I use only top quality artists' watercolours with quite a restricted pallet. Paper used is acid and chlorine free, hot press 300g.
