Fat Paint - Arcy Art Original Oil Paintings Art Dictionary

Fat paint is a mixture of oil paint and linseed oil so that the mixture is very oily. Used in contradiction to 'lean' where the oil paint is mixed with turpentine, benzine, petrol or with some similar volatile medium.

A good rule in oil painting is to start lean and finish fat as this avoids cracking in an oil painting.
